The History of Ho'okela:         by: Retail Merchants of Hawaii & the Honolulu Advertiser

Established in 1985 as the "Retail of the Year" awards program, the Ho'okela recognize and honor retailers and retail businesses in Hawaii: the criteria include exemplary performance in the industry and contribution to the community.  To receive such acclaim in an industry and contribution to the community.  To receive such acclaim in an industry so vital to Hawaii's economy is a tremendous accomplishment.  Over the years, categories and criteria have been updated and modified to reflect the constantly changing landscape of the retail industry. 

The word "Ho'okela" means to strive or aspire to excellence.

• Hawaiian Moon sponsors the 2007 Miss Hawaii USA and Miss Hawaii Teen USA pageant.  Contestants will be wearing fashions by Hawaiian Moon in the opening number.

  at the "OH Baby! Family Expo"! Featuring families with twins of the "Aloha Mother's of Multiples" all modeling Hawaiian Moon attire!

• Hawaiian Moon participates in F.A.C.E.  Local fashion designer, Takeo, creates a competition similar to "Project Runway" for local amateur designers in Hawaii. We featured three designs in the Professional category!  A red-carpet runway stretched the length of Nu'uanu Ave. featuring more than 120 models wearing the competition's fashions.

• Hawaiian Moon participated in "The Hawaii Experience in Fukuoka" to introduce the Hawaiian Moon label.  A fashion show and booth were presented to the people of Japan.  It was such a fabulous experience.
